Gov. Spanberger restores Virginia’s election integrity by focusing on data, not conspiracy theories

RICHMOND, Va. – In response to Gov. Spanberger signing Executive Order 13, which reenters Virginia into the Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), a bipartisan group that helps maintain voter rolls and that Virginia helped found, ACLU-VA Policy Director Chris Kaiser released the following statement:

“Gov. Spanberger’s executive order addresses a host of vulnerabilities in Virginia’s election administration processes that have blocked thousands of eligible voters from the ballot box in recent years. By requiring systematic voter-roll removals to be completed 90 days before all federal elections, and ensuring that Virginia’s voter lists are validated using data from the nonpartisan Electronic Registration Information Center (ERIC), the Commonwealth can restore critical guardrails against wrongful disenfranchisement, ensure clarity and integrity in Virginia’s electoral system, and reaffirm the unalienable truth that in order for democracy to function as intended, every eligible voter must have the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.”
