The American Civil Liberties Union and the ACLU of Virginia will appear via videoconference before the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals on Tuesday, May 26, at 9:30 a.m. ET for arguments on behalf of Gavin Grimm who sued the Gloucester County School Board in 2015 for adopting a discriminatory bathroom policy that segregates transgender students from their peers.

In August of 2019, two years after Grimm graduated high school, a federal district court ruled in his favor. The Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals was asked to review this decision by the Gloucester County School Board.

“No student should be subjected to the discrimination Gavin has endured from the school board’s bathroom policy,” said Eden Heilman, legal director for the ACLU of Virginia and co-counsel for Grimm. “Courts have ruled that trans students should be protected from discrimination. We continue to stand with Gavin and fight for equal rights for all people who are transgender.”
