Today, 44 U.S. senators sent Attorney General Jeff Sessions a letter expressing strong opposition to his reversal of the Department of Justice's position that made clear that discrimination against transgender people was a violation of federal laws prohibiting sex discrimination, such as Title VII. "Your statement that 'Title VII does not prohibit discrimination based on gender identity per se' critically undermines transgender individuals' established legal protection from workplace discrimination," wrote the letter. "[...]Actions that roll back the rights of LGBTQ Americans are not consistent with the values of equality and dignity or with Congress' s goals in passing the Civil Rights Act."

The letter was a significant show of support for transgender people and in opposition to the discriminatory agenda that Attorney General Sessions is spearheading at the DOJ. U.S Senators of Virginia Tim Kaine and Mark Warner signed on to this letter.
