This November, vote for people over politics.

Virginians can vote on THREE ballot amendments this fall to protect our freedoms in the Commonwealth – no matter who’s in office.

These three ballot amendments will give Virginians the final say about:

  • Who can vote
  • Who we can marry
  • What decisions we can make about our own bodies.

Vote YES on all three amendments to make sure our rights are protected for the future in Virginia.

Important dates

Know your rights before you head to the ballot box. Here are the dates Virginians need to know for this year's election:

September 18 to October 31, 2026

  • When you can vote early in-person

October 23, 2026

  • Deadline to register to vote or update your registration
  • Deadline to apply for ballot to be mailed to you

November 3, 2026

  • Election Day!

Reproductive Freedom

Amendment #1: Vote YES to put the right to access reproductive healthcare directly into Virginia’s constitution.

Abortion is legal in Virginia – but that could change with the swipe of a politician’s pen.

Ballot Amendment #1 will put power directly in the hands of the people to choose whether Virginians can make their own, private decisions about their reproductive healthcare.

Virginia is the last state in the South without severe restrictions or an outright ban on abortion after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.

This November, Virginians can protect our access to reproductive healthcare from politics by voting YES on #1.

Marriage Equality

Amendment #2: Vote YES to remove the outdated ban on same-sex marriage from Virginia’s constitution.

Same-sex marriage is legal in the U.S. – but that could change with the swipe of a Supreme Court justice’s pen.

Ballot Amendment #2 will put power directly in the hands of the people to choose whether Virginians can marry the person they love.

Right now, Virginia’s constitution still has an outdated ban on same sex marriage. If the U.S. Supreme Court were to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the landmark decision that legalized same-sex marriage federally, our state ban would snap back into place.

This November, Virginians can ensure our right to marry who we love in Virginia is protected from politics by voting YES on #2.

Voting Rights

Amendment #3: Vote YES to put eligible voters’ fundamental right to vote directly into Virginia’s constitution.

Virginia is one of the only states in the country where instead of voters picking their governor – the governor gets to handpick their voters.

Ballot Amendment #3 will put power directly in the hands of the people to choose whether Virginia will have a fair voting process that doesn’t rely on the whims of politicians.

Right now, Virginia permanently takes away someone’s voting rights when they’re convicted of a felony and requires people to individually ask the governor to give them back. This amendment would remove an elected politician like the governor from the process, so people get their voting rights back after they’ve served their time.

This November, Virginians can ensure our right to vote is protected from politics by voting YES on #3.

This November is our chance to make sure Virginians - not politicians - get the final say about who can vote, who we can marry, and what decisions we make about our own bodies.

Our rights are under attack

First, Roe v. Wade was overturned, and then the Voting Rights Act was gutted.

We know politicians won’t stop until abortion is banned, voting rights are wiped out, and same-sex marriage is eliminated.

But if we vote YES on all three ballot amendments, we can protect our rights no matter who's in office.

ACLU of Virginia to champion three separate amendments to Virginia’s constitution to safeguard Virginians’ rights
