Our 2026 Agenda: Defending Our Freedoms in Virginia
Stay informed about significant bills in Virginia's 2026 legislative session that will impact Virginians' civil rights and liberties.
Federal overreach has made it even more critical that we protect Virginians’ civil rights and liberties here at home. This legislative session, we’re working with legislators to shore up Virginians' rights in Virginia.
It’s time to end the chaos and defend our freedoms.
Defend Virginians’ access to our courts
For justice to work, everyone must have access to the courts. But ICE systematically targeted people at Virginia’s courthouses in 2025, obstructing justice and forcing Virginians to go without the courts’ protection.
Defend Virginians’ healthcare
No one should be afraid to provide or access legal healthcare. But Virginia is the only state in the South that didn’t pass an abortion ban after Roe v. Wade was overturned.
We support amending Virginia's constitution to protect access to reproductive healthcare in Virginia – from contraception to childbirth – from government interference.

Defend Virginians’ right to vote
Voting is the right that protects all other rights – and it must be out of reach of governors or parties.
We support amending Virginia’s constitution to automatically restore everyone’s right to vote when they’re released from incarceration.
If we’re going to defend Virginians’ right to vote with a constitutional amendment, our Elections Code needs to be updated. We support a bill to ensure returning citizens can navigate voter registration and cast a ballot.
No one should lose their right to vote just because they're appointed a guardian. But that's what has happened to some Virginians in guardianship proceedings, without a chance to prove their capacity to vote. We support a bill to make sure no one loses their right to vote without due process.

If we say Virginia is for lovers, it has to be for all lovers – but same-sex marriage is still prohibited by Virginia’s constitution.
If the Supreme Court decision legalizing same-sex marriage were overturned, Virginia’s outdated ban could go into effect. We support amending Virginia’s constitution to ensure Virginia marriages are safe, no matter what happens at the federal level.
Virginians should be able to count on a level playing field no matter where they are in the Commonwealth. But a recent Virginia Court of Appeals ruling limited anti-discrimination enforcement, so we support a bill to fulfill the purpose of the Virginia Human Rights Act by protecting Virginians from unlawful discrimination in both private and public settings.

Federal attacks are targeted at the most vulnerable Virginians, but we all depend on bedrock protections to guarantee our civil rights and civil liberties – so we're working with our partners to advance legislation that will do just that.
