We have long argued tuition equity would bring economic benefits to the Commonwealth and yesterday the Washington Post agreed. In a great editorial, the Washington Post highlighted this point:
“The state, having invested heavily in educating undocumented students through high school, squanders their potential by making college prohibitively expensive. College graduates earn more money than those with only a high school diploma, pay more in local and state taxes and more frequently go on to build wealth for others.”Tuition Equity legislation is not just the right thing to do, it’s the smart thing to do. Virginians across the Commonwealth understand the benefits that come with developing an educated public. The increased earning potential of college graduates as well as the advantage of having a higher caliber workforce would strengthen the Commonwealth’s economic foundation.
